Chapter Twelve

WYATT

I wake up tangled around Kendra and smile. I know it’s a little fucked up, but I’ve never spent the night with a woman before. This is a first for me, because I always ask them politely to leave.

Everything that is happening and every decision I’m making with Kendra is the complete opposite of the guy I usually am. The way she felt in my arms while we had sex and as we lay in bed last night, it made me think I could be falling for her. I didn’t want her to leave. It felt right.

I asked her if she’d ever been in love, and as she defined what that means to her, I felt that is exactly what is happening to me. It shocked me at first but then filled me with a sense of total understanding.

The idea of being with one woman was something I never wanted, something I totally avoided, until now. This just might be me … falling.

Kendra stirs in her sleep, bringing me back to the present, and I decide to let her snooze while I go see if there is anything to make for breakfast. Getting out of bed as slowly as I can, I grab my boxers and jeans before leaving the bedroom. I slip them on, then check her fridge and cabinets for food. I decide to make pancakes and bacon and pull all the ingredients I need out.

Just as I’m plating everything, I feel Kendra’s warm arms wrap around my waist. “Good morning,” she says before placing a kiss on my back.

I spin around and pull her to me, loving the feel of her. I kiss her nose and smile. “Morning. How did you sleep, baby?”

“I slept great. Best sleep I’ve had in a long time,” she says smiling back.

“My deep strokes put your ass to sleep, huh?”

She playfully slaps my arm. “Don’t be crude, Wyatt.”

“Are you hungry?” I ask while holding back a laugh.

We make our plates and go sit on the deck to eat. Even with her hair a mess and my t-shirt on (especially with my t-shirt on), she is breathtaking.

“Nice shirt,” I say giving her a wink. “Looks good on you.”

She throws her head back laughing and looks over at me. “Well, you left it here, so I thought I’d better use it. Plus, it’s comfortable.”

I grin and lean over to kiss her lips. “Keep it.”

After we finish our breakfast, we clean up the mess and then settle on the deck with fresh coffee. Kendra has fallen silent, and I wonder what she’s thinking about.

Just as I open my mouth to ask, she says, “Wyatt?” I raise my eyebrows and her cheeks get a hint of pink. “What happened the first night we met? The real story.”

“Don’t worry about it. It’s forgotten now,” I say. I don’t want her to be embarrassed.

“Please, I need to know. Did I make a complete fool of myself?”

I rub the back of my neck and try to decide what to say, but when I notice the desperation on her face, I know I need to tell her the truth.
